Configurability

The Sovren Resume/CV Parser is the most configurable parser available. Other vendors limit you to one configuration per machine, per account, per instance, or only allow a few parameters per parse. Our parser exposes hundreds of configuration points, far more than any other vendor, and allows you to use a different configuration for each parse transaction, without impacting performance. So whether you need to configure the parser for each of your jobs, users, customers, business lines or application workflows, our parser has the flexibility to adapt to your environment, in the smallest footprint, with optimal performance.

The default configuration works great for most customers and in most situations, and can literally be installed and working well in just minutes. But you also have a tremendous amount of high-level and fine-grained control over the parser, so that you can adapt it to your specific requirements.

Our parser captures all resumes sections defined in the HR-XML Resume schema, but you might not be interested in every section in every situation. In some contexts, you may want to capture additional information such as gender, marital status, age and salary requirements, and in other contexts it may be inappropriate or illegal to capture that information. You can tune the performance and output of the parser by toggling on/off flags that control which types of information you want to extract. And remember that you can adjust these coverage settings per parse, so you can capture different information in different contexts.

Control the output formats for contact information, dates, locations, phone numbers and more. Control whether multiple jobs at the same employer are nested or flattened. Control revision dates so that dynamic dates like “2000 to Current” are interpreted correctly when you parse old resumes. Control many aspects of parsing.

Add custom data to help the parser locate uniquely named licenses, certifications, degrees, or hundreds of other data points. Modify this data dynamically at runtime or via simple persistent text files.

Use our built-in skills taxonomy or provide an unlimited number of your own custom taxonomies. Because each parse transaction can use a different taxonomy, you are able to adapt the parser, and its taxonomy calculations, to work well for different markets, niches or customers. You can also specify which sections of the resume you want to extract skills from, because you might not care what skills are listed in the cover letter.

There are dozens of other ways to adjust, tune, and adapt the parser to suit your needs. Whether you are a new customer or you are upgrading to a new version, we work with you, at no charge, to identify the best configuration for your situation.
